Good for the FDA…withdrawing a long-standing, but baseless, claim that soy protein is somehow beneficial for heart health. The claim was based on flawed data — as so much nutrition science is — and is now rejected.
It’s a claim that is so flawed that even the American Heart Association, which still wants you to eat more carbohydrates at the expense of dietary fats from whole foods, was in favor of the FDA’s move. Sometimes, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn.
“Our review of that evidence has led us to conclude that the relationship between soy protein and heart disease does not meet the rigorous standard for an FDA-authorized health claim,” the agency said in a statement.
