What fitness pros wish you knew

Lots of good tips in this article for people searching for a qualified fitness professional to work with. To sum up: do your homework; don’t expect miracles; stay alert for lousy advice and unqualified instructors; and, plan to do some work. No trainer can make you do what […]

Protein will not kill your kidneys

Vicious and well-deserved take-down of a wide variety of so-called health professionals talking about the dangers of protein, especially in men and growing boys. Done as only Coach Mark Rippetoe can do it. Who is this moron Dr. Jerel Calzo? Just goes to show that the Ph.D. degree is […]

Good vs bad trainers and coaches

Strength coach Mark Rippetoe is nothing if not boldly opinionated. That’s part of what makes him so interesting to read and listen to. In this piece, he outlines the crucial differences between the machine-based training common in popular fitness centers and the barbell-centric approach that he advocates. In […]

Facebook is a nutrition minefield

“As a personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach myself, I know how valuable good coaching is. That’s why I reached out to Coach Vik for help with my kettlebell technique. Any average coach can help a beginner improve, but it takes a great coach to elevate someone from an intermediate level to an expert level. Coach Vik can clearly coach the basics with great skill, but he can also coach the subtleties and finer points of kettlebell training. Not only has my own training improved since working with him, but my ability to coach my own clients has improved as well.”

Over the last 6 months or so, my dad and I have worked with Vik Khanna, a Strongfirst certified kettlebell instructor to learn how to use kettlebells safely and effectively. Working with Vik and learning with my dad has been such a fun and enriching experience. Vik is so knowledgeable on all things kettlebell and health and fitness and he is definitely one of the best coaches I’ve ever had. We have learned so much from Vik and I can honestly say that I have the confidence to work with kettlebells that I didn’t have before and I know that kettlebell work will be a major part of my workouts for the rest of my life. I’m so glad that we decided to invest in working with Vik and that I got to have the experience with my dad. If you ever have any desire to learn more about kettlebells (which if you use them at all, I would definitely recommend getting trained in them properly), I would highly recommend Vik. He’s not only an awesome kettlebell coach but also a great person and I truly am going to miss working with him. ~~ November 2017.

“Vik deserves commendation for patience, creativity and tenacity. He as been an invaluable asset to me [and my family]. When my schedule has been busy, or my motivation has waned, he never failed to step in and make suggestions based in legitimate research and tailored to my specific needs, that get me back on track. With kids, a whirlwind daily routine, and a sedentary nature, it has not been easy to add physical activity and healthy home-cooked meals to my daily routine, but Vik makes it possible.” ~ Carrie B., Attorney, mother, wife.
